We find that our small group programs are beneficial because
we are able to address student issues in a larger group without an individual
feeling singled out. Sometimes our students learn more from each other than we
can teach them. We figured if one group is beneficial to our students, why not
two?
We’ve created opportunities for our small groups to
interconnect. Right now our Newspaper
Group is interviewing our Bookstore group members. The Newspaper students learn
interviewing skills and continue to expand their newspaper content, while the
Bookstore students get to speak (brag) about their entrepreneurial success. Additionally, both groups are exposed to new
students they might not have known, along with new personalities, challenges
and opportunities to continue developing the social and emotional skills
they’ve learned from Partnership with Children.
It’s a win-win for all.
The Newspaper Group distributes their finished newsletter
school wide every other month. I’m
excited to see what they’ve learned from partnering with their new friends in
the Bookstore group and hope I can share some of the finished articles in a few
weeks!
